About Al-Gharafa
Al-Gharafa are one of Qatar's most successful clubs, a yellow and black force from the Al Gharafa suburb of Doha who earned their place at the top of Qatari football through hard-won consistency and some memorable trophy surges. Originally founded as Al-Ittihad Doha in 1979, the club was renamed in 2004 and came to dominate the Qatar Stars League in the late 2000s, winning three consecutive titles from 2008 to 2010. Their 1999 Arab Clubs Championship win stands as a landmark moment in the club's continental history.
Founded on 6 June 1979, Al-Gharafa compete in the Qatar Stars League. Their home is Thani bin Jassim Stadium in Al Rayyan, which holds 27,000 spectators. Key honours include 7 Qatar Stars League titles, 7 Sheikh Jassim Cups, 1 Arab Clubs Championship (1999), and a string of domestic cup doubles including league and cup wins in 1997-98, 2001-02, and 2007-08.
Al-Gharafa are instantly recognisable in yellow and black, earning the nickname The Cheetahs. The combination is one of the most vivid in Qatari football and has remained consistent throughout the club's history. Away and third strips have explored darker tones to contrast the bright home palette. Al-Gharafa's commitment to youth development, running one of Qatar's largest academy programmes, means those yellow and black shirts have been worn across generations by homegrown players who went on to represent the national team.
