About Al-Shamal

Al-Shamal are Qatar's northernmost club, a spirited outfit from the coastal city of Madinat ash Shamal whose journey through Qatari football has been defined as much by resilience as by silverware. Founded in 1980 with limited resources, the club built patiently through youth development and earned their first taste of top-flight football in 1986 after winning the Second Division. Their home ground, modelled architecturally after the historic Zubarah Fort with red bricks imported from India, is one of the most distinctive and characterful venues in Qatari football.

Founded in 1980, Al-Shamal compete in the Qatar Stars League when in the top flight. Their home is Al-Shamal SC Stadium in Madinat ash Shamal, a 5,000-capacity ground inspired by the design of the Zubarah Fort. Key honours include 1 Sheikh Jassim Cup (1996), 4 Qatar Second Division championships, and 1 Arab Peace Championship (1995).

Al-Shamal's traditional colours are green and white, reflecting the club's northern Qatari identity and giving their shirts a fresh, distinctive look in the Qatar Stars League. Operating with more modest resources than Qatar's bigger clubs, their kits have remained relatively clean in design across their history, letting the colours speak for themselves. The 1996 Sheikh Jassim Cup remains the proudest moment in the club's shirt history, a day when the green and white was worn in triumph and Al-Shamal's name was written into Qatari football's record books.
