Alverca

FC Alverca are a Portuguese football club from Alverca do Ribatejo in the Vila Franca de Xira municipality, north of Lisbon, founded in 1939. After decades in the lower reaches of the Portuguese pyramid, the club achieved an extraordinary rise to the Primeira Liga in 1998 and spent several seasons competing at the top level of Portuguese football. Alverca folded in 2005 for financial reasons but was refounded in 2006 and has since rebuilt determinedly through the lower divisions to return to Liga Portugal, completing one of Portuguese football's most resilient comeback stories.
