About Anderlecht
Anderlecht are the most successful football club in Belgium, a purple and white institution from the Brussels municipality of the same name who have dominated domestic football for more than a century. Founded in 1908, they have won a record 34 Belgian Pro League titles and lifted the European Cup Winners' Cup twice, in 1976 and 1978, confirming their status as one of the great clubs of the continental game. No Belgian club has shaped the national game or produced more top-level talent than the Mauves.
Founded on 27 May 1908, Anderlecht compete in the Belgian Pro League and have played continuously in the top flight since 1935. Their home ground is Lotto Park in Anderlecht, Brussels. Key honours include 34 Belgian Pro League titles, 9 Belgian Cups, and 5 European trophies including 2 UEFA Cup Winners' Cups (1976, 1978).
Anderlecht's purple and white colour scheme has a charming origin: local legend holds that the colours were inspired by the white and purple orchids decorating the carriage of future Queen Elisabeth during a flower parade in Anderlecht in the early 1900s. The home shirt has been predominantly purple with white trim ever since, though the club briefly explored a black and purple combination in 2005-06. Kit manufacturers have included Adidas, Le Coq Sportif, and Adidas again in more recent decades. The iconic purple home shirt worn during the European trophy years of the 1970s remains the most celebrated in the club's history.
