About Arges Pitesti
Arges Pitesti are one of Romanian football's most distinctive clubs, from the industrial city of Pitesti in Arges County and famous for their striking violet and white colours. Founded in 1953 as Dinamo Pitesti and renamed Arges in 1967, the White-Violets won the Romanian league title twice in the 1970s and the Cup in 1964, with the legendary Nicolae Dobrin at the heart of their golden era. A three-time Romanian Footballer of the Year, Dobrin is the greatest player in the club's history and made Arges Pitesti one of the most respected provincial clubs in the Divizia A for nearly three decades.
Arges Pitesti were founded in 1953 as Dinamo Pitesti and renamed in 1967. They competed in Divizia A for 29 consecutive years and won the Romanian league title twice in the 1970s. They also won the Romanian Cup in 1964. Their colours are violet and white, earning the nickname the White-Violets. The club was declared bankrupt in 2013.
Violet and white is one of the most distinctive colour combinations in Romanian football, and the Arges Pitesti shirt stands apart from the red, blue, and white of their domestic rivals. The kits of their 1970s title-winning era, worn by Nicolae Dobrin as he became a Romanian football legend, are among the most sought-after shirts in Romanian football history. Even in dormancy, the violet and white of Arges Pitesti retains a powerful identity that supporters and collectors treasure equally.
