About Bahia

EC Bahia are the pride of Salvador, one of Brazilian football's most storied clubs and the beating heart of football in the northeast of the country. Founded on New Year's Day 1931, the Tricolor have won the Campeonato Brasileiro twice, in 1959 and 1988, and have claimed the Bahia State Championship more than 50 times. Their 1959 title holds a special place in club history as it came at the expense of a Santos side featuring a certain Pele, with Bahia winning the final to become national champions.

Founded on 1 January 1931 in Salvador, Bahia, EC Bahia compete in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, Brazil's top division. The club became part of the City Football Group in 2023. Key honours include 2 Campeonato Brasileiro titles (1959, 1988), over 50 Bahia State Championship wins, 8 Northeast Championship titles, and a Copa Libertadores quarter-final run in 1989.

Bahia's blue, red, and white tricolor kit tells the story of their origin: blue honours the Associacao Atletica da Bahia, white represents the Clube Baiano de Tennis, and red reflects the Bahia state flag. The three colours merged into one club identity in 1931 and have been inseparable from the Tricolor ever since. The home shirt has traditionally featured a bold horizontal stripe design incorporating all three colours, making it one of the most recognisable kits in northeast Brazilian football. The club's membership of City Football Group from 2023 brought fresh investment and global visibility to those famous colours.
