About Benfica
Benfica are one of European football's truly great clubs, a red institution from Lisbon whose two consecutive European Cup wins in 1961 and 1962 with the incomparable Eusebio remain among the defining achievements in the competition's history. Founded in 1904, the Eagles have won the Portuguese championship more than 37 times, produced generational talent from Eusebio to Rui Costa to Joao Felix, and played their football at the Estadio da Luz, one of the finest football arenas in Europe. For Portuguese football, Benfica are not just a club but a national institution with over 14 million members and supporters worldwide.
Founded on 28 February 1904, Benfica compete in the Primeira Liga, Portugal's top division. Their home is the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon, which holds 64,642 spectators. Key honours include 37+ Portuguese league titles, 26 Taca de Portugal wins, and 2 European Cup titles (1961, 1962).
Benfica's red home shirt is one of football's most recognisable garments, a simple and bold design worn across more than a century of Portuguese and European football. The club wore white until adopting red in 1930, and the colour change proved to be the making of their visual identity. The 1961 and 1962 European Cup winning shirts, worn by Eusebio and his teammates under the legendary manager Bela Guttmann, are the most celebrated in the club's history. Adidas has been the kit supplier for many years, producing clean modern versions of the classic red that carry the full weight of that history.
