About Besiktas
Besiktas are one of Istanbul's three great clubs and a passionate force in Turkish football, a black and white institution from the Besiktas district of the city who have won the Super Lig more times than any other club in the country's history. Founded in 1903, making them the oldest football club in Turkey, the Eagles have claimed 16 Super Lig titles, produced some of Turkish football's most iconic players, and brought global stars to the Bosphorus in a string of memorable transfer coups across the decades.
Founded on 19 May 1903, Besiktas are based in the Besiktas district of Istanbul and compete in the Super Lig, Turkey's top division. Their home is Vodafone Park, opened in 2016 on the site of the former Inonu Stadium, which holds 41,188 supporters. Key honours include a record 16 Super Lig titles, 9 Turkish Cup wins, and a UEFA Cup quarter-final run in 2003.
Besiktas's black and white home kit is one of Turkish football's most iconic designs, a colour scheme the club has used since their founding in 1903. The choice of black and white carries genuine significance: the club's founding values called for a strip symbolising integrity and transparency, and those principles have been embedded in the shirt ever since. The home kit has been supplied by Adidas in the modern era, with the classic black and white design given a contemporary sharpness. The opening of Vodafone Park in 2016 brought a spectacular modern stage for those famous shirts, replacing the historic Inonu Stadium where so many of the club's defining European and domestic nights took place.
