About Celtic
Celtic are one of the great clubs of world football, a green and white hooped institution from Glasgow whose 1967 European Cup triumph with the Lisbon Lions made them the first British club to win the competition and cemented their place in football immortality. Founded in 1888 by Brother Walfrid to help feed the poor of the East End of Glasgow, the Bhoys have won the Scottish championship more than 53 times and built a supporter culture with a global reach that few clubs can match. The intensity of the Old Firm rivalry with Rangers is the most passionate derby in Britain, played out in those famous hoops on one of football's greatest stages.
Founded on 6 November 1888 by Brother Walfrid, Celtic compete in the Scottish Premiership, Scotland's top division. Their home is Celtic Park in Glasgow, which holds 60,411 supporters. Key honours include 53+ Scottish Premiership titles, 40+ Scottish Cups, 9 consecutive league titles from 2012 to 2020, and the 1967 European Cup.
The green and white hoops that Celtic have worn since 1903 are among football's most recognisable garments. Before the hoops, the club wore white shirts with a green collar. The 1967 European Cup winning kit worn by the Lisbon Lions in Lisbon's National Stadium is the most celebrated shirt in Scottish football history, a hooped design of simple genius that defeated the all-white of Inter Milan. Umbro, Umbro, and then New Balance and Adidas have produced the hoops across different eras, but the design itself has been unchanged for over a century and remains perfection.
