About Coventry City
Coventry City are one of English football's great FA Cup stories, a sky blue club from the West Midlands who produced the most improbable and joyful Wembley afternoon of 1987 when they defeated favourites Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 in one of the classic finals of the modern era. Founded in 1883 as Singers FC, the Sky Blues spent a remarkable 34 consecutive seasons in the top flight before relegation in 2001, and have spent the years since building back through the Championship. Their passionate support and iconic sky blue identity make them one of English football's most recognisable clubs outside the elite.
Founded in 1883 as Singers FC, Coventry City compete in the Championship, England's second division. Their home is the CBS Arena in Coventry, which holds around 32,700 supporters. Key honours include 1 FA Cup (1987), when a dramatic final against Tottenham Hotspur was decided 3-2 in the Sky Blues' favour.
Coventry City's sky blue home shirt is one of English football's most distinctive and instantly recognisable colours. The Sky Blues adopted the sky blue identity in 1962 under Jimmy Hill's chairmanship, replacing a dark blue and white strip with a lighter, bolder shade that gave the club a genuinely unique visual identity in English football. The 1986-87 FA Cup winning kit, an Hummel design with chevron detailing, is the most treasured shirt in the club's history and among the most fondly remembered of its era. Le Coq Sportif and Hummel supplied the club during different periods, with each era bringing fresh takes on the famous sky blue.
