About Genoa
Genoa CFC are Italian football's oldest club, founded in 1893 by British residents in the port city of Genova, and nine-time Italian champions whose history stretches back to the very birth of the game in the country. The Grifone, named after the griffin in the city's coat of arms, have spent the vast majority of their history in Serie A and produced generations of technically gifted players in one of Italy's most atmospheric footballing cities. Their red-and-blue colours have flown at Luigi Ferraris, one of the great old grounds of European football, for well over a century.
Founded in 1893, Genoa play at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genova, Liguria, Italy. League: Serie A (Italy). Honours: Italian champions 9 times (the last in 1924); Coppa Italia 1937. Nicknames: Il Grifone (The Griffin), Genoa.
The red-and-blue hooped or striped home shirt is Genoa's most iconic design, one of Italian football's oldest and most distinguished aesthetics. The early 1990s Kappa and Asics kits, worn during some of the club's most competitive recent Serie A campaigns, are prized collector pieces. The 2023-24 promotion kits, marking Genoa's return to the top flight, generated genuine fan excitement after years of lower-division football. For collectors of Italian football history, owning a Genoa shirt is owning a piece of the game's origins in the peninsula.
