About Perugia

Perugia are Umbria's most celebrated football club, a proud central Italian side with a history stretching back to 1905 whose greatest era came in the late 1990s and early 2000s when they established themselves as a genuine Serie A presence. Under the eccentric ownership of Luciano Gaucci, they became one of Italian football's most adventurous clubs, signing players including Hidetoshi Nakata and Marco Materazzi. Their Coppa Italia triumph in 2003 remains the club's greatest achievement, and the red shirt of Il Grifo is one of Italian football's most recognisable. Founded in 1905, Perugia Calcio are based in Perugia, Umbria. They play at Stadio Renato Curi. The club are nicknamed Il Grifo (The Griffin) after the griffin on the city's coat of arms. Major honours include the Coppa Italia in 2003. Their home colours are red. The red shirt of Perugia carries decades of history from a club that has punched above its weight throughout much of the 20th century. The kits from the club's outstanding Serie A era in the late 1990s and early 2000s are the most celebrated, worn by the likes of Nakata, Materazzi, and Fabio Grosso as the Umbrian club competed with the giants of Italian football. The strip worn during the 2002 to 2003 Coppa Italia-winning season holds a special place in Perugia's shirt history. Lotto have been one of the prominent manufacturers for the club, producing several memorable red designs across the years.
