About Portsmouth

Portsmouth are one of English football's most passionate clubs, a south coast city that lives and breathes its football with a fervour that has produced some of the game's most atmospheric moments. Founded in 1898, Pompey have twice been champions of England, lifting the First Division title in 1949 and 1950, and twice won the FA Cup, in 1939 and most memorably in 2008 under Harry Redknapp when the club were still a Premier League force. The famous Fratton End roar and the royal blue shirt are inseparable parts of English football's fabric.

Founded in 1898, Portsmouth are based on the south coast of England and compete in the EFL Championship. They play their home matches at Fratton Park. The club are nicknamed Pompey. Major honours include the First Division championship in 1949 and 1950, and the FA Cup in 1939 and 2008. Their home colours are royal blue. Portsmouth returned to the Championship in 2024 under manager John Mousinho.

The royal blue home shirt is Portsmouth's most powerful symbol, worn through two title-winning seasons in the late 1940s and throughout the club's most recent period of success in the mid-2000s Premier League era. The 2008 FA Cup winning side, which beat Cardiff City at Wembley, wore a striking blue kit that has since taken on significant nostalgic value for Pompey supporters. The famous blue shirt has appeared in dozens of configurations over the decades, with manufacturers ranging from Admiral to Kappa to Pringle. Whatever the badge on the chest, that royal blue remains the soul of Portsmouth.
