About Sunderland
Sunderland AFC are one of English football's great sleeping giants, a club that has filled Wearside with passion for well over a century. From their Stadium of Light roar to some of the most iconic red and white stripes in the game, Sunderland carry enormous footballing heritage. Six league titles, FA Cup triumphs, and the fervent loyalty of the Wearside faithful make this one of the most storied clubs in the north of England. Founded in 1879, Sunderland play at the Stadium of Light and compete in the Championship. Their honours include six First Division titles and two FA Cup victories. Known as the Black Cats, they remain one of English football's most passionate supporter bases and one of the game's true traditional clubs. The red and white stripes are Sunderland's defining image. From early cotton jerseys to the slick designs of their Premier League heyday in the 1990s and 2000s, the stripes have never wavered. The 1973 FA Cup winning kit holds legendary status, as Bob Stokoe's side shocked Leeds United at Wembley. More recently, Hummel and Adidas have produced clean, stripe-first designs that respect the club's visual heritage as they push for a return to the top flight.
