About Trabzonspor

Trabzonspor are the great force of Turkish football outside Istanbul, a club that broke the stranglehold of the capital's big three and made the Black Sea coast a name feared across the country. Seven Super Lig titles, a golden era of dominance between 1976 and 1984, and a remarkable seventh title in 2021-22 that electrified the whole of Anatolia. In claret and blue stripes, Trabzonspor represent something bigger than football for a region that has always had to fight to be heard. Founded in 1967, Trabzonspor play at the Senol Gunes Sports Complex and compete in the Turkish Super Lig. Key honours include seven Super Lig titles and multiple Turkish Cups. Known as the Eagles, the club wears claret and sky blue stripes that have become one of Turkish football's most recognisable colour combinations. The claret and sky blue stripes are Trabzonspor's badge of honour. The 1970s golden era kits, worn as the club claimed three consecutive Super Lig titles between 1979 and 1981, are part of Turkish football folklore. The stripe pattern reportedly traces its origins to Aston Villa, whose kits were gifted to the club in its early years. The 2021-22 championship season brought renewed pride in those stripes, and the kit worn that season already carries deep meaning for every Trabzonspor supporter.
