About UNAM Pumas
UNAM Pumas are one of Mexican football's most distinctive and beloved clubs, the team of the National Autonomous University of Mexico and a proud symbol of student culture in a country where football is everything. Founded in 1954, they have won Liga MX seven times and produced some of Mexico's greatest footballers, including Hugo Sanchez, who wore the gold and blue before his move to Real Madrid made him one of the most celebrated strikers in European history.
Founded in 1954 in Mexico City, UNAM Pumas play at the iconic Estadio Olimpico Universitario on the campus of the National Autonomous University. Their honours include seven Liga MX titles and a historic 2004 Copa Libertadores final appearance, the first by a Mexican club.
Gold and blue are the unmistakable colours of UNAM Pumas, as iconic in Mexican football as any pairing in the sport. The kits worn during Hugo Sanchez's time at the club in the late 1970s and early 1980s are among the most collectible in Latin American football history. The strips from the 2004 Copa Libertadores campaign introduced the gold and blue to a South American audience who had never seen a Mexican club reach so far in their premier competition. Adidas have long been associated with the Pumas kit.
