About Universitatea Craiova
Universitatea Craiova are one of the great clubs of Romanian football, a white and blue institution from the city of Craiova in the Oltenia region whose 1970s and 1980s squad achieved things that no Romanian club had achieved before. The era known as Craiova Maxima produced four league titles and five national cups between 1948 and 1991, and the 1981-82 European Cup saw Craiova eliminate Olympiacos and KB before being stopped in the quarter-finals by a formidable Bayern Munich side. Ilie Balaci and Rodion Camataru were the talismans of this extraordinary team, and the name Craiova still resonates deeply across Romanian and European football.
Universitatea Craiova were founded in 1948 in Craiova, Oltenia. The historic club won the Romanian league title four times, with the last title in 1980-81, and five national cups. White and blue are the proud colours of Universitatea Craiova, and the shirts worn during the Craiova Maxima era are among the most celebrated in the history of Romanian football. The 1981-82 European Cup campaign kit, worn as Craiova came within touching distance of a continental semi-final, is the crown jewel of the club's kit history. For any fan of Eastern European football heritage, the white and blue of Craiova at their brilliant peak represents a club that showed the world exactly what Romanian football was capable of.
